IN · Published Oct 9, 2026
• A low-pressure area is expected to form in the southeastern Bay of Bengal around 13 October 2026, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and weather expert U Win Naing.
• This system is linked to an upper-level cyclonic circulation currently forming over the Gulf of Thailand, which will move into the Andaman Sea by 11 October.

Impact & Risks

Heavy rainfall is anticipated in regions such as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal due to the low-pressure system. Coastal and southern areas may experience localised flooding, waterlogging, and disruptions to daily life. Moderate rainfall, accompanied by lightning, strong winds, and hail, is also expected in parts of eastern and northeastern India. Flash floods are a concern in upper Sagaing Region and Shan State in Myanmar. Meanwhile, central and northern regions of India may see only scattered light rain.
